Stock Market Live Updates 19 April 2024: Asia stocks weaken on US sell-off, Fed’s hawkish stance
Sensex, Nifty, Share Prices LIVE: Asian stocks opened significantly lower on Friday, dragged down by a continuation of the selloff seen in US shares and Treasuries this month. This decline followed strong economic data and hawkish commentary from the Federal Reserve. The Nikkei 225 index fell by 2.04%, or 777.39 points, to 37,302.31, while the broader Topix index declined by 1.46%, or 38.35 points, to 2,638.31. South Korea’s KOSPI dropped by 1.63%, or 42.96 points, to 2,591.74. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 also fell by 1.09%, or 83.60 points, to 7,558.50. In the US, Wall Street closed flat on Thursday, with the Dow up by 0.06%, the S&P 500 down by 0.22%, and the Nasdaq down by 0.52%.
