Today in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to move a motion to appoint Om Birla as the Speaker amid a contest with the opposition’s candidate, K Suresh. MPs who haven’t taken the oath will do so, followed by PM Modi initiating the motion supported by Union Ministers and other leaders. The BJP’s Om Birla and Congress’ K Suresh will vie for the Speaker’s role, with both parties issuing whips for their MPs’ presence. The election marks a significant parliamentary procedure rarely contested in recent history.
