10.06 am: Share price of Va Tech Wabag jumped around 5 per cent in the early trade on Thursday after the company informed stock exchanges on Wednesday (post market hours) that Malaysia’s national oil and gas company, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) awarded Rs 1,500 crore effluent treatment plant order to the consortium of VA Tech Wabag and Muhibbah Engineering. Sensex was up 235 points at 25,689. Nifty was up 76 points at 7,793.
9.49 am: Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,573.42 crore on Wednesday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 880.27 crore, as per provisional data. Nifty was up 56.65 points at 7,773.65.
9.29 am: Sensex was up 118 points at 25,571. HCL Technologies rose over 1 per cent on BSE after the company announced that it has entered into a global partnership with Manchester United.
The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty opened higher on global cues. The 30-share Sensex opened 161.13 points higher at 25,614.69. Nifty opened 57.45 points higher at 7,774.45.
All the sectoral indices on the Bombay Stock Exchange opened in green.
In the 50-share Nifty index, Ambuja Cement, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Cipla and HCL Technologies were up between 1.50 per cent and 2.50 per cent.
NTPC turned ex-dividend on Thursday, for final dividend of Rs 1.75 per share for the financial year ended March 2015. Grasim Industries also turned ex-dividend, for dividend of Rs 18 per share for the year ended March 2015.
Markets extended their southward journey on September 2 for the third straight session, benchmarks indices ended the Wednesday’s session with a cut of around a per cent, breaching their crucial 25,500 (Sensex) and 7,750 (Nifty) levels.
Sentiments remained dampened on account of weak GDP data coupled with worries on China’s economic slowdown amid fears of an interest rate hike by the US fed has triggered a fresh round of selling across the global markets.

London: London-focused housebuilder Berkeley Group has replaced valve and pump maker Weir Group in Britain’s FTSE 100 index following a quarterly reshuffle, FTSE Group announced on Wednesday.
Tokyo: Japan’s Nikkei share average rose for the first time in four days on Thursday as gains on Wall Street boosted sentiment and bargain hunters flocked to recently battered stocks.
