Late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s son alleged before the Supreme Court that Ansari was poisoned and denied medical treatment, leading to his death in custody. The bench, hearing the plea for Ansari’s safety, noted the petitioner’s claims and allowed four weeks for Uttar Pradesh to respond. Ansari died of cardiac arrest on March 28.
