Introducing DumbInvesting – Idea generation for buying and selling (07-06-2024)
Hello VPs,
I am excited to present to you https://www.dumbinvesting.com/.
Features
i) Check monthly mutual fund disclosures for top mutual funds
(Eg link → Dumb Investing | Mutual Funds & Stocks – Old Bridge Focused Equity Fund)
Use case → Want to get a new idea and track the portfolio of the fund manager of your choice for ideas?
Tracking fund managers is always better than tracking celebrity investors as you will know when they will exit the stocks.
So you will not be an Abhimanyu.
ii) Filters the stocks in top mutual funds based on portfolio percentage, mutual fund ownership in the company, stock category, first bought date, etc( Eg screener → Dumb Investing | Mutual Funds & Stocks – Stocks)
Usecase – Check recently added stocks, recently sold stocks, etc
iii) Check the holding change in top mutual funds for any stock over the last 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, and 6 months. (Eg link → Dumb Investing | Mutual Funds & Stocks – Zomato)
Usecase – Check the top mutual fund’s activity for the stocks in your portfolio over up to 6 months.
Note → Here New tag means, that it was added first time in that month.
Here, instead of tracking all mutual funds, we are tracking only top mutual funds just to avoid noise in filters and the stock page.
Guiding principles
- To track only those instruments for which we know with certainty when they sell like mutual funds, research services, or small cases with minimum delay(max delay = 1 month).
- To track mutual funds, small cases, or research services that are reputable to avoid noise and increase chances of success as basic checks like forensic would have been already done specially for not to common stocks.
- Keep it simple and easy
Please share your experiences.
Upcoming features feedback
Please help us with which feature looks helpful and you might pay for it.
We will build the features based on feedback.
-
We are thinking of building a notification system(through emails) where you can add notifications when a stock is sold by a top mutual fund or group of top mutual funds.
My thoughts → Might be a good indicator to rethink the stock buying or holding decision. -
Add a volatility stop-based indicator on any stocks and trigger emails based on it.
My thoughts → Might be a good indicator to rethink the stock buying or holding decision as per SOIC.
Volatility stop is provided by Tradingview but taking Tradingview subscription just for volatility stop seems unjustified. -
Integrate the sector update reports, management meet reports, and initial coverage reports.
My thoughts → When a stock gets added by top mutual funds, many times it gets difficult to know their thought process. Reading research reports might help. -
Integrate relative strength percentile, and volatility stop in the mutual funds-based stock screener.
My thoughts → Two good indicators as per SOIC. Buying positive volatility stops stocks helps us to rethink our buying decision when it turns negative.
Relative strength is a good indicator for buying as it can judge the momentum.

Zomato – Should you order? (07-06-2024)
- Q4 PAT for the whole business is INR 175 Cr (including a deferred tax credit of INR 14 Cr) and not INR 396 Cr. Q4 Adjusted EBITDA for Food Delivery biz was INR 275 crore, but this is not PAT. – where is the PAT of INR 396 crore being taken from?
- Let’s forget about all the adjusted EBITDA terminology and look at the hard numbers. For FY24, Zomato’s PAT % is 2.71%. For Q4FY24, Zomato’s PAT is 4.61%. For our experiment, let’s say that Zomato is able to maintain this PAT % for FY25 and able to achieve 5% PAT for FY26. Here’s a table of how the PAT would look like even if Zomato’s doubles it’s revenue YoY. I am not even taking 30-35% growth. I am taking 100% growth.
- With expansion in Blinkit, HyperPure, Going Out – Capex is going to be high which would result in higher depreciation. FY26 PAT of INR 3,100 is extremely difficult to achieve.
