Sounds like a deeply contrarian view. If Credit/Leverage slows down (deleveraging – are we on a credit bubble?) GDP too will slow down, no?
His thesis seems to sectors of real economy (power, metals, manufacturing, commodities) will outperform financials over the next decade, and on the other hand, we have every other MF have highest allocation to Financials.

I also used to think the same, but in recent times whenever i have had to visit the branch i realized that its always been busy there. Retired people who prefer to get their passbooks updated sometimes bringing passbooks of not just their family members but also neighbours 
then many times ppl seeking loans come down to the branch, negotiating on the interest rates. ppl visiting branches to operate lockers, etc. quite a few use cases to keep the staff busy.
Pls if you notice the branch size has steadily dropped keeping the rent cost low.

OPM – yes, I expect this will increase. I’m not worried.

Employee Cost – yes, it is low. However, it is not concerning. They have managed to build a business while keeping costs low (smart, frugal, etc?). They will ensure below average employee cost structure in the future too, it seems. If they are able to have a lower than industry % on this, it will add to their margins, significantly. My concern would be if they are grossly underpaying the employees, that is, if the employee for the same exact role would get a much higher wage at a competitor – this would raise an alarm bell, for me, as it’s not something I’d like to see in my companies. Employee respect & fair wage is essential and critical.

Let’s wait and watch. Let’s address this post Q3 and Q4 numbers. It needs to improve. Considering the recent raise, it should.
Speciality Restaurants (22-01-2024)
Anjan Chatterjee mentions an upcoming acquisition in the CNBC interview. Any guesses on who the target is?
What we know for sure (from Anjan in the interview) is
- It’s a Chinese restaurant chain based in India that is profitable and not more than 500 Cr in size but not very small as well
- It’s a well-known brand as he mentioned both the anchors would know of it
- Someone experiencing growth troubles as he said the reason to join the force is to figure out growth and scale from Speciality
Here are some of my extrapolations from his statements –
- On the size I would guess the number to be 100-250 Cr with a turnover of maybe 20-50 Cr to make sense to Speciality’s scale
- Present across multiple cities would be preferred by Speciality over a chain concentrated in only one Geography. If it’s a single geography, then that’s Mumbai, as both anchors wouldn’t know of it otherwise (I am assuming CNBC’s anchors are based out of Mumbai)
My pick is China Gate which is popular in Mumbai. Another possibility can be Wow!China but that’s a slim chance as it’s part of the much larger Wow!Momo group and is comparatively large.
Please share your thoughts. What other possible chains do you think can be targeted based on the above points ?

I do have the same question since the urban population is becoming tech savvy. In my locality, I get to see 7 to 8 HDFC branches within a 5 km radius and am wondering how much does it cost to run these on a daily basis. For the past 12 years my salary account was/is with CiTi and StanChart and did not have the need to visit them once except to collect physical statements for visa purpose
