Instagram, owned by the tech giant Meta, on Wednesday, unveiled its new app called ‘Threads’ a new app designed to directly compete with Elon Musk’s Twitter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a US-based media house, Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch, framing Threads as “a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations.” Threads will be linked to users’ Instagram profiles, making it simple to connect with followers, prominent personalities, or brands.

Draft data protection bill gets Cabinet nod (05-07-2023)
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill, which will be tabled during the monsoon session of Parliament, according to a source. The bill aims to make entities like internet companies, mobile apps, and business houses more accountable and answerable about collection, storage and processing of the data of citizens as part of “Right to Privacy”. “The Cabinet has approved a draft of the DPDP bill. It will be tabled in Parliament in the upcoming session,” the source said.
M-cap of BSE-listed firms reach all-time high (05-07-2023)
The market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms reached an all-time high of Rs 299.90 lakh crore on Wednesday despite the Sensex falling marginally after a remarkable record-breaking rally in the last few trading sessions. The 30-share BSE Sensex dipped 33.01 points or 0.05 per cent to settle at 65,446.04, after rallying in the past five trading straight sessions. Over 4,900 fake GST registrations revoked since May 16 (05-07-2023)
GST authorities have identified about 17,000 non-existent GSTINs and cancelled over 4,900 registrations in the ongoing pan-India drive against fake registration, a senior tax official said on Wednesday. Currently, there are 1.40 crore businesses registered under Goods and Services Tax, nearly double the number of businesses registered in indirect tax regime pre-GST rollout. Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) member Shashank Priya said in the drive against fake registration, till July 4, over 69,600 GST Identification Numbers (GSTINs) have been selected for physical verification by field tax officers.
India’s services sector growth eases to 3-month low (05-07-2023)
India’s services sector growth eased to a three-month low in June but service providers continued to signal positive demand trends, which resulted in a stronger increase in new business volumes and further job creation, a monthly survey said on Wednesday. The seasonally adjusted S and P Global India Services PMI Business Activity Index fell from 61.2 in May to 58.5 in June. Despite falling from May, the latest figure was consistent with a sharp pace of growth.
