Record 5.4 lakh vehicles sold during Navratri: FADA (10-10-2022)
Vehicle retail sales in the country rose 57 per cent during the Navratri festival this year, clocking a record sales of nearly 5.4 lakh units, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations said on Monday. Total vehicle retail sales between September 26 and October 5, 2022, stood at 539,227 units compared to 342,459 units sold during Navratri last year, FADA said in a statement. The sales registered this year were also a record, bettering the previous best of 4,66,128 units in Navratri of 2019, it added.
Mutual funds assets rise to Rs 39.88 lakh cr in Sep (10-10-2022)
Driven by inflows into Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), the mutual fund industry’s total assets under management rose to Rs 39.88 lakh crore in September from Rs 36.73 lakh crore in the year-ago period. On a monthly basis, the Assets Under Management (AUM) increased marginally from Rs 39.33 lakh crore in August. According to the latest monthly data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) released on Monday, the industry wide net AUM stood at Rs 38.42 lakh crore in September.
TCS says moonlighting ‘ethical issue’; no action taken (10-10-2022)
The country’s largest IT services exporter TCS on Monday said moonlighting is an “ethical issue” and against its core values but has not taken any action against any staff. The company, which employs over 6.16 lakh people, will take into account all the relevant dimensions while forming its final view on the issue which has been dominating headlines for the last few weeks, its chief human resources officer Milind Lakkad told reporters. “Moonlighting we believe is an ethical issue and it is against our core values and culture,” Lakkad said.
Mumbai airport switches to green energy sources (10-10-2022)
Adani group-AAI operated Mumbai airport on Monday said it has switched to green energy sources, fulfilling 95 per cent of its requirement from hydro and wind and the rest 5 per cent from solar power. The facility witnessed a rise in natural energy procurement with 57 per cent green consumption in April to a whopping 98 per cent between May to July, and finally attained 100 per cent utilisation of renewable sources of energy in August, the private airport operator said in a statement. Mumbai Airport was the first in India to launch hybrid technology which has been solely running on green energy since April, thus enabling an efficient and low carbon future for aviation, as part of efforts to reduce carbon footprint, it said.
TCS Q2 net up 8.4% to Rs 10,431 cr; revenue jumps 18% (10-10-2022)
The country’s largest software services exporter TCS on Monday reported an annualised 8.4 per cent growth in net income at Rs 10,431 crore for the September quarter. The Tata Group company said its total revenue from services grew at a much faster pace of 18 per cent to touch Rs 54,309 crore in the period under review. The city-headquartered IT major had reported consolidated revenue of Rs 46,867 crore in the year-ago quarter from which it had earned Rs 9,624 crore net income.

After tumbling over 800 points in intra-day trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex clawed back some lost ground to end 200.18 points or 0.34 per cent lower at 57,991.11.

He lives cheek by jowl in a hutment measuring 200 square (sq.) feet (ft) in the nondescript shanty town. “We have surrendered to our fate. We cannot wait forever for better accommodation. “Perhaps we are not meant to dream big,” despairs Prajapati. About 3K taxpayers’ grievances may be resolved soon (10-10-2022)
The grievances of as many as 2,500-3,000 taxpayers could be addressed and resolved between October 2 and October 31. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has asked tax officials to dispose of at least 20 per cent of the pending matters during the period. The move comes after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently nudged the income-tax (I-T) department to redress the grievances promptly.
Unicorns feel funding winter chill (10-10-2022)
The drying up of funds for a number of start-ups is affecting the firms’ unicorn status across the globe. The past six months have seen the valuations of 147 unicorns drop, of which 71 were from the US and 29 from China, according to the latest Hurun Global Unicorn Index 2022. Eighty-one unicorns from across the globe saw their valuations drop below $1 billion-the threshold for a start-up to be labelled unicorn-from last year.
