The Indian services sector activity fell to a six-month low in September, as new business inflows rose at the slowest rates since March, amid inflationary pressures and competitive conditions, a monthly survey said. The seasonally adjusted S and P Global India Services PMI Business Activity Index fell to 54.3 in September, from 57.2 in August, highlighting the weakest rate of expansion since March. For the fourteenth straight month, the services sector witnessed an expansion in output. In Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) parlance, a print above 50 means expansion, while a score below 50 denotes contraction.

7.85 lakh unsold housing stock in top 8 cities (05-10-2022)
Real estate developers are sitting on around 7.85 lakh unsold housing units across eight major cities and it will take them 32 months to clear these stocks at current sales velocity, according to PropTiger. However, in Delhi-NCR residential market — which has been adversely impacted due to defaults of many big builders like Amrapali, Jaypee Infratech and Unitech — it will take 62 months to sell over 1 lakh unsold housing units. Housing brokerage firm PropTiger.com data showed that unsold housing inventory has increased to 7,85,260 units as on September 30, 2022 from 763,650 unsold units at the end of previous quarter.
Dip in demand from China, Italy may hit India’s export (05-10-2022)
A decline in external demand from countries, such as China, Bangladesh, and Italy, is driving down India’s merchandise exports that could have led to exports contraction in September for the first time in 19 months. Disaggregated data available till August showed, among top 50 export destinations of India, shipments contracted to 19 and 17 economies in July and August, respectively. In contrast, exports had declined only to six among the top 50 destinations in June.
Nokia to scale up mfg in India by 1.5x to support 5G (05-10-2022)
Telecom gearmaker Nokia will boost its manufacturing capacity in India by 1.5x over the next few years to support the 5G services roll-out, said Tarun Chhabra, the company’s country head of mobile networks business. Nokia is supplying network equipment to Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio for their 5G networks from its plant in Chennai. Vodafone Idea is yet to finalise its contract as it awaits fresh funding.
New norm for RuPay credit card use on UPI (05-10-2022)
There will be no charge for RuPay credit card use on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for transactions up to Rs 2,000 in line with the RBI direction, a recent NPCI circular said. RuPay credit card has been operational for the last four years, and all major banks are enabled and are issuing incremental cards for both commercial and retail segments. “During credit card on-boarding on the apps, the device binding and UPI PIN setting process shall include and be construed as customer consent for credit card enablement for all types of transactions,” the circular dated October 4 said.
Report to office at least 3 days/week: Wipro to staff (05-10-2022)
Wipro on Tuesday asked its employees to be in office at least three days a week. It has informed its employees that offices will be open for four days a week, starting October 10. In an e-mail to its employees, Wipro said: “Starting October 10, Wipro’s office will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We will not be open on Wednesdays.” The company said in the e-mail, seen by Business Standard, that the move will “help us enjoy the camaraderie and team spirit of connecting in person while maintaining hybrid work flexibility”.
Now, medical device resellers need to register (05-10-2022)
The Centre has asked traders and resellers of medical devices to register in an attempt to expand the ambit of regulating the medical devices industry in the country. The move can have far-reaching consequences for both consumers and traders alike as products like face masks or prophylactics – now sold through grocers and other channels – may face issues of availability. In a notification dated September 30, the union ministry of health and family welfare said anyone wanting to sell, stock, exhibit or offer for sale or distribute a medical device, including in-vitro diagnostic medical device, will need a certificate of registration.
