Prof. Sanjay Bakshi’s Lecture link (18-09-2015)
I have learnt so much from Prof Bakshi and his blog articles. He is a good teacher. The only criticism can be about his presentations. I did not enjoy even one. I was like on the edge of the seat…uncomfortable…because I felt he was not very comfortable. He looks very uncomfortable in front of crowd and his delivery is too fast, subdued tone and awkward kind. He will be even more effective if he improves his presentation. Otherwise a top notch teacher of value investing in India. And very generous teacher I would say. Would love to meet such remarkable person.
Poddar Developers – An affordable housing story (18-09-2015)
@Aragorn
Both Ashiana & Poddar have been telling of the general decline in real estate off take. Next few quarters are not expected to be good hence the froth is coming off the stock prices. With no near term triggers the stock is still positive on a YTD basis. No apparent reason for the same and hence the price correction. Saying all this there is no one who can predict near time price movements of a company. Do a detailed analysis on your own and you will have the answers
Poddar Developers – An affordable housing story (18-09-2015)
Any idea what has triggered the steep fall in the price of Poddar? I presume the initial drop was owing to the general real estate slowdown but there has been a further decline in the past few days. Just wondering if there is some specific trigger/event driving it.

Radix Industries – The Bizarre Human Hair Business (18-09-2015)
One year back when i am digging more into this story some red flags are shown about promoters, if you haven’t i will try to post it when time permits.
POKARNA LTD ( Stock opportunities ) (18-09-2015)
@alpeshp72: As per the link, the total quartz import from India in July 2015 is 176,905 sq.feet. If we convert that into metres,it comes to 16434 sq.metres.If we do a back of the envelope calculation for 12 months,it comes around 200,000 sq.metres.
Pokarna’s total capacity is 8.89 lakhs sq.metres annually. I have few questions here:
1.Is my calculation right?
2.Does this indicate Pokarna is the only quartz player from India?
3.Even if we assume 2 lakhs to 2.5 lakhs sq meter of annual exports from India for this year,it does not even come close to 1/3 rd of pokarna’s capacity.

@varadharajanr: I am here to learn ,not to get sentimental or biased towards my stock ideas.I would be more happy if people like you find the blind spots in the ideas we discuss here.We all work hard to make our living and save our money. It is better to have our theory be challenged constantly by others so that we become very thorough on our ideas. This way we can learn as well as sleep peacefully with our stocks.
Tonight,I will try call them and find the answers. If not, next week i will try to get the answers.
Radix Industries – The Bizarre Human Hair Business (17-09-2015)
One of my screens on screener.in had thrown up this stock and I started researching it.
What company does?
They export Human hair to various countries. The hair is procured mostly through e-auction process at various south indian temples. Then the hair is sorted, graded, processed into various categories and then it is exported to the various industries.
More About Industry
The majority of hair industry seems to be situated in Tanuku, Andhra Pradesh and Chennai, Tamil Nadu. There are many companies in this space and many of them are privately owned. I have listed some of them below:
- Raj Hair International Private Limited (Chennai) http://www.rajhairintl.com/index.htm
- Indian Hairs Private Limited (Tanuku) http://www.indianhairs.com
- R K Hair Industry (Chennai) http://www.indianhumanhairexporter.com
- A quick google search shows may players in Tanuku (http://dir.indiamart.com/tanuku/human-hair.html) and in Chennai (http://dir.indiamart.com/chennai/human-hair.html)
Industry Products
Following page has good information about the products.

Briefly, there are two types of hairs – remy and non-remy.
Remy: Collection of natural hair in the same direction i.e. root at one side and tail at the other.
Non-Remy: The roots and tails can be present in mixed directions.
The hairs are offered from 8 inches to > 40 inches. Then there are different colors, shades, extensions and a full menu of products.
The following YouTube video shows how hair are processed in a comprehensive video.
More detailed videos can also be found.
Following page gives some flavour of pricing of the hairs:

There seems to be high demand from US, Europe and China as per some new articles.
Company
This seems to be only company that is listed on the stock exchanges. Many companies I looked at were private limited entities.
The stock showed up in my screen due to 8x topline and bottomline growth in last 3 years.
The ROCE and RONW bumped up to 30%+ range in FY15, although I am not sure if ratios mean a lot for a business like this. The P/E ratio is 40+ and company is not paying out any dividends. The ratio of Debt to Owners fund is 0.67.
After all this research, I haven’t invested in the company but thought of putting out my research here for the community. I’m looking to take an opportunistic bet if we can conclude that Radix’s sales will growth by same crazy amount as it did in the last 3 years.
zauba.com shows many export shipments from Hyderabad/Chennai for last many months. Will pull out some data over the weekend.
Disc: Not Invested.
