Is Buy and Forget a Myth? (03-04-2024)
Thanks for kind words @Mehul1. I am also salaried, 11th hour of my career, already working for 27 years now. I am using ICICI direct account. There is provision of MTF trade option where you can pledge your holdings and get a limit for trade. Buying in MTF will allow you to hold your stock for 1 year and u have option to convert it to delivery, square off position to book gain/loss. This is a boon whenever there is severe correction in a bull market as no one has money to buy in correction and curse in a bear market as prices will be down only.
I have 50% of leverage rule at max of my total portfolio.
Positives
Arvind ltd bought in MTF Last year at 90 rupees and just carried over till 230 rate. 5000 quantity. Total gains 7 lks.
Shoppers stop bought 5000 shares in 2022 at 270 rate. Kept holding till 600.
Done it for several other stocks including ABFRL, AB Cap. Tata motors, too many.
Negative
Bought dreamfolks at 790, after Apr 23 results stock tanked to 480, booked at 540, 1000 quantity loss 2.5 lks.
Booked MTF losses of 10 lk in march 23.
This game is not for all however if you are disciplined than you will gain. My rule is max leverage 50% and optimum 30%.
Action construction equipment ltd (03-04-2024)
How likely is the growth to sustain? Concern right now is valuations. At the end of the day underlying industry (infra) is cyclical and idk if we are at the starting of cycle or its getting moderated? FY25 budget has pegged the infra allocation growth at 10% YoY from the earlier 2-3 years when the overall allocation grew at 25-30% CAGR.
Just wondering if there’s space for the stock to compound at say 40-50% CAGR from current levels?

@Cshar Sir, could you please elaborate in detail(if possible) on ‘efficient use of leverage’ and how did you efficiently use leverage in making it a big in your 8 year journey? If you can give some real life example, that would be great. I have some basic idea about loan against share, but it’s always good to hear from someone who has implemented practically. As a salaried retail investor, we have very limited capital to invest with limited years(may be 15-20 years depending upon the age when we started investing). So I belive it is worth using leverage depending upon the individual risk appetite.
Congratulation on your exceptional achievement. It looks unbelievable without luck factor and timely entry/exit
DDev Plastiks Industries – A Smallcap Gem (03-04-2024)
They face competition from import from global chemical giants such as Borealis AG and Dow Chemical Company.
As for India I dont seem to find any other listed peer however one thing i noticed was that many cable companies seem to make their own compounds (XLPE) like RR Kabel. So one could view them as indirect competitors.
Ranvir’s Portfolio (03-04-2024)
Hello Ranvir, two questions
Why not selling Radico Khaitan?. I understand that business is doing well and growing only but the valuations have stopped making sense now. Even when the capex capacity starts kicking in, valuations still seem high even if co. achieves expected earning growth.
Disc. holding it from lower levels but planning to exit
Are there still any hotel and hospital stocks left where there is a valuation comfort? and are fundamentally sound? If yes please suggest so that I can study them.
JK Paper – Best Bet in Paper Sector? (03-04-2024)
Paper Industry demand scenario-
Industry is expected to grow at ~6% so a back of the envelope calculation suggests that industry needs to add 2 million tons every year to catch up with the expected demand.
Supply Scenario- Major new capacity additions are as follows :
So the demand supply gap exists but its being addressed through imports which are on the rise since the removal of ADD. Indian imports of paper & paperboard have jumped 47% in FY23, the highest jump being in imports of uncoated writing & printing paper at 102%, followed by coated paper & paperboard at 51%. In the previous year, overall jump in paper & paperboard was ~25%.
In November 2021, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), recommended the continuation of then existing anti-dumping duty on imports of uncoated copier paper for a further period of 2 years. But the Ministry of Finance decided not to impose the anti-dumping duty and there is a logical reason for that. Paper is the most recycled commodity. When we import 1 ton of finished paper, it provides 5-7 times fibre for recycling, which in turn saves the foreign exchange on imports of waste paper. However, in the case of exports, every ton of export of finished paper, indirectly exports 5-7 tons of fibre also. The country has to thus make a higher foreign exchange payout for importing 5-7 tons of waste paper in lieu of every ton of exports of finished paper.
Over last few years, there has been a rising trend in imports and a declining trend in exports, thanks to the slowdown in China and massive paper capacity additions by Brazil, Uruguay & GCC. We don’t know when the demand for export will revive.
Other than that, one of the largest paper-making giants, Asia Pulp and Paper (APP), is going to set up the largest capacity in India (1.2 million TPA).
So to conclude, although India has been a net exporting country, going forward, it appears that exports are contracting due to excess global supply while imports are increasing due to higher demand in domestic market (provided govt doesn’t intervene). JK Paper undoubtedly remains the best bet in the entire sector but there has to be a trigger (say ADD on imports). What’s the trigger here? In my view, any moderate increase in demand due to NEP or single use plastic ban will be met by increase in imports if not interrupted.
Views are welcome, especially opposing views. I am sure I am missing a lot of things here. Happy to be educated.
