@Girish
Fenner India is the pioneer in India for manufacturing rubber V belt and it is more than 100 years old company. The company was the part of erstwhile Madura Coats.The working of the company was severely affected after taken over by Manuchabria,then infamous take over king.Now Fenner is under the fold of JK Singhania group.and they are taking all measures to bring back the glory. Pix initiated action from 2010 for improvising and development of new products.
If details ofJK Fenner is available comparison with pix can be made.

Thanks @richdreamz. That's helpful.
It will be great if you can answer one more of my questions relating to political risk.
Is it possible for a particular state government to impart control over the lendings made by the MFIs?I.e. waivers of loans types.
What I understand it won't be that easy for the govt. these days after RBIs involvement.
Thanks.

Hi Nav,
Sorry for the very late reply, couldn't get time (drenched in chennai rains)... Yes the company did not do very well in the past... But with the recent developments and managements decision to review the company and IPCA's takeover plan are something which is attracting... If you look at the future then this is an company to be considered for investment... This the only company in India and one of the very few company in the world to manufacture pharma prods through fermentation process... It may take another 2 to 3 qtrs for the company to show some sign of improvements. Also the company own's two USFDA approved plants and hefty land (which can be considered for expansions in the future as well). I strongly believe things will materialize positively.
Please do your research as well and let us know if you find any mishap... I'm invested in this stock with a long term view.
Regards,
Sarav

On the finance, would recommend you just keep only one bank and one nbfc.
In Pharma, I would recommend doing 15-15-10 approach. Having too much allocation in just one pharma exposes you the FDA audit risks. So would recommend playing it safe here.
May be you should allocate 10-15% to some small cap ideas (< 500 cr) as well.

If I can reply to your query though it is addressed to @Anand6 -
- The max loan amount that can be lent to an individual has been increased to 1 lakh by RBI recently.
- One individual can at max take loan from 2 MFIs.
- The credit rating agencies play a very important role here. With time they should be able to build a robust data so credit appraisal process can be improved much further.
- The regulations now are much better than what existed a decade back because the below parties now play the required role
- MFIN, RBI, rating agencies, Microfinance specific PE investors.
- As per a research note on MFIs --> Microfinance proponents have long argued that microfinance as an asset class deserves special attention due to its low beta, or low correlation between the performance of microfinance assets and the overall economy. This claim first achieved prominence in the wake of the Asian financial crisis of 1996 when Bank Rakyat Indonesia, an Indonesian bank with a large microfinance portfolio, managed to escape the crisis relatively unscathed.

@Anand6
Currently is there any limit on loans (valuewise or numberwise) that can be given to a borrower specified by RBI for MFIs?
Or any strict guidelines by RBI that secures our MFIs from the repeat telecast of AP debacle.
I'm just trying to understand that how AP like scenario can be avoided in the under-penetrated north India. Though RBI intervention has improved the regulations but are they enough to prevent another blunder.

good portfolio with some very high quality names.
but i fail to understand this hype about granules.
Portfolio check up (19-12-2015)
good portfolio. you could divide equally between Granules and torrent pharma. you should also add some capital goods/infra companies. I have in mind Indian Hume Pipes which will play a good role in water and sanitation programmes of the government

Summit Securities is a Value buy among holding companies (19-12-2015)
Low volumes could be another factor affecting the price of these holding companies.
Also its hard to find these stocks from a regular stock screener using the metrics we normally use like PE, debt ratio etc.. Book values don't seem to reflect the real assets for these companies.
Here's a cnbc video, 3 people talking about kalyani investments which was in a similar situation a year ago.
