Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has defended the implementation of a law to prevent unfair means in competitive examinations, stating it is “damage control”. The law, which aims to curb malpractices and irregularities in competitive exams, was operationalised on June 21, 2024, following protests over alleged irregularities in medical entrance exams. The law entails provisions for a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore for offenders.
