Reduce Securities Transaction Tax: The overall transaction cost in India is higher because of STT compared to other countries. The other costs like brokerage and transaction fees have declined over the years. The higher STT reduces liquidity in the capital markets and is driving away market participants and presently STT is lowest on options and highest on delivery transactions, which makes speculation cheaper than cash market delivery settlement. STT for delivery transactions should be reduced to attract investments.
