The founder of the group was Sri.V.S.Thiruvengadaswamy Mudaliar who started with humble beginnings under the VST & Sons banner in the year 1911. The group built its reputation through retailing of petroleum product & distribution of Automobiles in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.V.S.T.Tillers Tractors Ltd was promoted by VST Motors, as a joint venture ( and Technical collaboration) with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, Japan. The company is now the largest manufacturer of Power Tillers in India. The company has a network of about 200 dealers and 300 vendors all over India most of whom have been associated with the company over several decades.While the company continues to be the leader in the Power tiller industry with about 47% market share, its pioneering efforts for introduction of compact tractors have been recognized all over India under the brand name of VST Mitsubishi Shakti. The company has since introduced mechanized Rice transplanter and reapers.The company also exports its products to Africa, Russia, Myanmar and other countries while component parts are exported to UK and Europe. Financials: The company registered a compounded sales growth of 17.75% and compounded NP growth of 24.11% during last 5 years. A zero debt company with EPS of 80.46 and book value of 442 is trading at a PE of 19. ROCE average of last 3 years stands at 44.26%. Leaving other uncertainities like monsoon etc., the company could do well in the future too as shortage of farm labour and increasing shift to farm mechanisation would offer a lot of scope.
