I think much depends on whether you have the temperament to be a contrarian and be patient. There is no doubt that the stock is cheap because it is quoting at 0.55 the book value. However, there is no clarity on the quality of the asset book and whether there are more NPAs. If there is more deterioration in the asset quality, there could be more downside. On the other hand, if there is an improvement in the situation, the stock can surge and give handsome returns.

One solution is to wait for the quarterly results and listen to the management commentary to see whether there is any improvement in sight. A decision can be taken thereafter.

PSU banks will lagger due to their asset quality issues however you can buy south indian bank available at a reasonable valuation, large service coverage in south india, much bettet asset quality and may prove to be a multibagger in span of 1-2yrs md moreover it is the cheapest private sector bank available and huge possibility of its takeover by a bigger player.

Its cheap but it has the highest NPA level. Rather buy a good quality bank like Axis which is not that expensive and also asset quality is good.
