Brightly coloured Motor Launches provide a pretty foreground to the magnificent Gateway of India. The Gateway of India was built in the Indo-saracenic style to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay, prior to the Darbar in Delhi in December 1911. The Gateway of India is the symbol of Mumbai. It is the starting point for most tourists desiring to explore the city. The motor launches are a favourite with tourists. For a small fee, one is taken around Mumbai’s attractive natural harbour and given a brief introduction to a few naval installations dotted around the harbour.
