HBJ Capital’s modus operandi for attracting clients was extremely simple. It played on the human emotions of greed and gullibility. Whenever a stock became a multibagger, HBJ Capital would release advertisements claiming to have discovered it. It also claimed that its subscribers were basking in great riches. HBJ also offered generous discounts to entice investors to join their services.
HBJ Capital also ensured that it remained in the news by getting obscure organizations to give its “awards and recognition”. Among other, it claimed to have won the ‘Asia’s Most Promising Brand and leadership award’.
This gave HBJ Capital the much-needed credibility and respectability.
The strategy worked very well because investors flocked to it in droves. They not only joined its various schemes called “Hedge Fund Portfolio”, “Multibagger”, “Bulls Eye”, “The Millionaire Portfolio”, “Fortuna” etc but also pumped in large sums of money into its PMS.
However, having enticed the client to part with his money, HBJ lost the plot. It did not provide any service, and its stock recommendations resulted in huge losses, leaving its clients in a disgruntled state of mind.
One can see the outpouring of anger against HBJ Capital in these two posts (1) (2). The common complaint from investors is that “HBJ Capital Cheated Me”.
SEBI’s order dated 15th June 2015 acknowledges the fact that several complaints were received by it against HBJ Capital. It says:
“SEBI received several complaints inter alia alleging that they had subscribed to the various services/schemes offered by HBJ Capital, which offered huge returns. However, the company failed to provide the returns they promised and also failed to refund the money invested by the complainants”.
SEBI holds that “it is very evident that the activities of HBJ Capital and its directors of giving trading tips, stock specific recommendations, etc. to the investors on a contractual basis on payment of fees falls within the definition of activities of “investment adviser” as defined under Regulation 2(m) of the SEBI Investment Advisers Regulations. HBJ Capital and its aforementioned directors are engaged in providing investment advisory services to investors without obtaining necessary registration for the same as mandated by Section 12 (1) of the SEBI Act and Regulation 3(1) of the SEBI Investment Advisers Regulations.”
SEBI finds fault with HBJ Capital for having acted as investment advisers and alternative investment funds without obtaining registration from SEBI. It also notes that several complaints have been received against HBJ Capital alleging that HBJ Capital failed to provide the services promised by it and also failed to provide the returns promised. It is also alleged that HBJ Capital is not refunding the money invested by the investors/clients.
SEBI has expressed the apprehension that investors at large could be misled and the moneys invested by the investors are at risk on account of such unauthorized activities of unregistered entities.
SEBI has accordingly directed HBJ Capital Services Pvt. Ltd. and its Directors viz. Kumar Harendra, Amrita Singh, Abhishek Kumar Singh, Jitendra Kumar, Arunmozhi Gopalan and Ponnuraj Gokulraj “cease and desist from acting as an Investment Adviser and Alternative Investment Fund and cease to solicit or undertake such activities or any other unregistered activities in the securities market directly or indirectly, any manner whatsoever”. SEBI has also directed HBJ Capital and the persons above refererd to “immediately withdraw and remove all advertisements, representations, Literatures, brochures, materials, publications, documents, websites, etc. in relation to those schemes/activities (investment adviser and Alternative Investment Fund) or any unregistered activity in the securities market”.
Now, we have to see whether there is any chance for HBJ Capital’s clients to get back the hard-earned money that they entrusted to HBJ Capital.
SEBI has passed “cease and desist” order against –
HBJ Capital Services Private Limited and HBJ Capital Ventures LLP and their directors & partners for carrying out regulated activity of “investment advisory” and “alternative investment fund” without registration with SEBI.

HBJ Cheated investors, They also lured saying Nepali victims they are collecting . i failed complaint with all proof with SEBI. The promoters must be first arrested and should be given Sahara chief treatment
Basant took 1 Lakh rs and shutting down Q&A services..
Hew should return the money back.
Soon we are filing complaint against him to SEBI.
Dear Ketan,
Are you a subscriber of Basant? If yes, you should know that while he has been very clear that everyone’s money will be returned on pro-rated basis; all his subscribers feel there is no need to return even if he closes the service before their annual subscription date is over. That is because subscribers believe his advice is gold and his intent is noble. Please do not compare Basant with any crooks in the market. If you have been a subscriber for a long enough time, you would know he has never indulged in cooking up old advices, irrespective of the price movement. Of course, his advice is based on solid fundamentals, so most of the stocks have gone up multiple times over years. So, let us spare at least the honest guys out there, else all we will be left with will be only the crooks!
All articles with hbj should be removed from this site too.
Kumar brought a new Audi with people’s money. they will open a new company/website and continue doing the same
shocking news – how to get refund of HBJ capital – I given them 25000rs & didnt get any profit – they are not attending my calls when i call them back several times
I gave Rs.25000/- for (profit sharing package) my capital locked on their stock recommendations & leads to loss more than I owe them. They are not responding emails / attending calls / do we need to go bangalore office to see them ?

M very happy to hear that n finally Sebi stepped in to save innocent investors. Sooner or later this was supposed to be happened the way they are looting ppls money..many ppl raised concerns n complaints already ant HBJ in different forums n web portals including this one before…beware of such fraud companies n do proper due diligence before acting…
Complaint should be filed to SEBI against :
1. Basant Maheshwari for stopping the services mid way, not returning clients money and running away with it.
2. Paul Asset for advising without a license and running illegal quasi PMS.
Does Katalyst Wealth, Niveza, Stock Axis etc. has SEBI registration? ‘Applied for’ is not enough. Can anyone confirm. If not, complaint should be filed against them also.
Kudos to SEBI for banning HBJ and its directors.
These services should just be taken as advisory. Finally the client should decide whether he wants to invest in the recommended picks. Also, the client must at all times keep the money with himself and not be lured by PMS etc.
Just so that you know, you can not advise if you not registered, period. kudos to Sebi and they must take necessary steps for this asset and all, which are cheating people in broad daylight.
Dear Ponty,
Why bring a genuine guy like Basant in this discussion about crooks? What is the meaning of him “running away” with your money? If you are a subscriber, you know he has told he will be returning pro-rated fees to everyone, even though his subscribers are saying they do not need it, but rather have the service continued.
He should have said that earlier. Only when a group of subscribers approached threatening action and complaint to SEBI did he come out and said that. What does it mean he will? Let him at least start the procedure for refund. What is he waiting for? Hawkins to rise?
LOL. Nice reply Ponty.
Dear Ponty, I would like to just state that for ordinary subscribers, he never told he is shutting down the service without returning money. It seems you had some special situation.
How can I get back my money from these cheater? Please guide me the procedure,& also I want to see these cheaters behind the bar,so that they can’t cleat others ,
thanks
Hi Arjun,
thanks a lot for putting this article .
I am so much relieved . I know that I wont get back my hard earned money I paid to them, but atleast no other innocent investors will cheated further .
Thanks ,
I have called the listed number on 22nd of June of HBJ capital. one so called research analyst Manoj of HBJ capital picked up the call and he was offering all the schemes. Does it mean that they are still operating even with SEBI ban? Next day I called the same number and another research analyst called Kanika picked up the call and offering the schemes. SEBI pl check and follow up. Banning without follow up doesnot help any one. Stringent punishment must be given which is the only deterrent.
They are number one crooks. There is one Ajay Mathela who runs 30 lakhs,40 lakhs and 50 lakh futures plan and collects 10% upfront from the investors and puts it into his account.100% of HBJ executives including ladies are crooks.I can vouch for that .SEBI must blow up their offices in Bangalore with 1000 tons of dynamite so that they stop cheating the people.
Hbj capital is a cheat company . They have not given salary for majority of the enployees. That bastard Sandeep Jain is a chor . He has looted every innocent investor money to build his flats and homes and buy luxury cars.
Now God is taking away what he has looted . Jaisi karni waisi bharni

Mr Joshi, Sorry for replying late..I had transferred money through online and did not get any receipt from them. How about your end. Do you got your money?
I was contacted by Mr. Rahul for Life Time Membership (plus other promises) and Mr. Mazar Ahmad for other services at HBJ Capital and I paid 1.5 lakhs. Mr. Jitendra Kumar (one of the Directors) contacted me to make investments i HBJ Capital (for monthly assured returns) and I paid 1.5 lakhs. All were On-line payments – acknowledgements and receipts came for having subscribed for services. No receipt was issued for investments, however, receipts came for having subscribed for services which I did not subscribe for.
I complained to SEBI – got a reply saying that they are taking action on HBJ and my complaint is closed.
I am interested in this issue.
