Perils of media stocks – junkyard anchors who alienate viewers

We saw earlier how Barkha Dutt, the infamous erstwhile anchor of NDTV, single-handed torpedoed the fortunes of NDTV.

Her notorious anti-India, anti-Army and pro-Pakistan stance aroused so much hatred amongst viewers and advertisers that the revenues of the channel have simply dried up.

NDTV is now on the brink of insolvency thanks to Barkha Dutt.

Similar misfortune has befallen the TV Today group which has employed the infamous Rajdeep Sardesai.

Rajdeep is also universally reviled by all sections of the public.

One can gauge the extent of revulsion from the fact that Porinju Veliyath, who is otherwise mild-mannered and generous with compliments, called the duo of Barkha Dutt and Rajdeep Sardesai “anti-nationals”.

Radio Mirchi (ENIL) recommended by Kenneth Andrade and Akash Prakash

Entertainment India Ltd was recommended by Kenneth Andrade amidst much fanfare at the recently held Sohn India 2017 conference.

ENIL a.k.a Radio Mirchi is the market leader in the Radio space with 30% market share … Radio is an attractive space with 4% of Media spend and growing at a CAGR of 16.9%. ENIL has already done significant capex and its time to reap the benefits,” the visionary stock picker said.

Kenneth Andrade’s recommendation was implicitly endorsed by Akash Prakash. His Amansa Holdings Pvt Ltd holds a massive stake in ENIL.

The stock has earlier been recommended by Motilal Oswal with the assurance that it has the potential to deliver 4x multibagger gains if things go as per plan.

Protests and boycott after Radio Mirchi runs “Mat Aao India” (Don’t come to India) campaign

An executive named Akash Banerjee has spoilt the whole show.

Apparently, the imbecile ran a campaign on Radio Mirchi called “Mat Aao India” in which he counseled foreign tourists to stay away from India or else face the risk of rape, murder, theft etc.

Understandably, the campaign, which is clearly designed to show the Country in a bad light to foreigners, aroused the ire of all citizens.

Govt threatens to withdraw license of Radio Mirchi

Now, the worst case scenario is that the I&B Ministry has issued a show-cause notice in which it has threatened to cancel Radio Mirchi’s license if it does not mend its ways.

How to handle the huge destruction to goodwill and reputation?

It is unfortunate that the enormous goodwill and reputation that Radio Mirchi cultivated over the years has been destroyed by one irresponsible campaign.

Investors are obviously petrified at the sorry state of affairs. The stock has not all participated in the ongoing rally. It is flat on a YoY basis. The present fiasco will further weaken investors’ sentiment.

Prima facie, the top brass at Radio Mirchi should take immediate remedial measures. They should issue a heart-felt and unconditional apology to the Country and promise to never ever again indulge in such shenanigans.

They should also simultaneously publicly shame the entire creative team and summarily dismiss all of them from service.

Then, there is some hope that Radio Mirchi may be able to get back some of its glory back!

  1. The government should cancel the license to Radio Mirchi and we should boycott the anchors Burkha and Rajdeep who are antinational

  2. Very good article. Well articulated. All information is factual and these anti nationals are not welcome in India. Simply put, they can get lost.

      1. Oh look at who’s come crawling out of the woodwork … hahaha .. love it when you get your saffron chaddis all in a twist

      2. Irrelevant comments here should be moderated. The moderator is keen only in cutting out comments against porinj onl;y?

    1. Thank god for one contrarian comment!

Most people are dumb and follow the loudest statement, whether it be true or not. This is the basis for the existence of the advertising industry.

One must also remember that more than 2 out of 3 indians voted against the bjp (they won with 31% votes)

      1. The most ludicrous comment of a failed liberal coward. You lack confidence as an Indian, believe you are below other people and have a severe inferiority complex. That is the reason why you didn’t vote for a pragmatic, forward thinking and patriotic Prime Minister. no other reason. Let’s get the facts straight.

  3. Why this hatred to people asking questions? Whether these are right/wrong questions let people decide. Please refrain from commenting once sided…

    1. Kindly post a factual statement before critiquing someone who has the guts to speak for the majority of Indians. This article is factual and has merit on all counts. If you don’t like it, then you are the minority ok little boy. Gone are the days when cowards like you hid behind the lie that you represent an educated majority.

  4. Question is who is funding these companies to do such anti National ads and how much even as companies know that it will erode their market cap and their reputation in the market?
